Digital platform helps health officials engage better with rural communities

September 30, 2019 - Maputo, Mozambique, Africa - In Mozambique, a digital platform is helping health officials engage better with rural communities. The Community Tablet which runs on four to six large Samsung LCD screens, powered by solar panels transported by trailer (which can be attached to anything – from a motor vehicle to a donkey), develops customised animations that communicates key messages from NGOs on HIV, cholera, financial awareness and more. This ensures what is depicted in the content is familiar to rural communities and culturally sensitive to local traditions. The Community Tablet also harnesses gamification, playing a short game with participants after showing the animation to increase engagement and collect data to demonstrate how well a message has been understood. Since hitting the road in 2015, it has helped to educate over one million Mozambicans across 90 communities.
