Despite Venezuelan oil and Russian support, Cuba's fuel shortages here to stay

October 04, 2019 - Havana, Cuba, Latin America - A flotilla of ships carrying Venezuela oil to Cuba in recent days has given the island some respite from acute fuel shortages and Russian prime minister pledged this week during a visit to Havana to help achieve energy security in the face of tougher U.S. sanctions. But support from its two closest allies look unlikely to resolve Cuba's chronic energy problem and the government looks set to retain energy-saving measures introduced over the past month as tensions with the Trump administration continue.
