Appointment – Actuary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism

October 28, 2020 - The Mount Vema Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, seeks to appoint an Actuary for its division of Commerce, to oversee the exchange of goods and services between the Kingdom of Mount Vema and other countries.
 
Mount Vema citizenship is not a requirement to apply for this vacancy.
 
The successful candidate will evaluate, manage the exchange of goods and services and advise on any financial risks to the Secretary of the State, using his/her knowledge of business and economics, together with their understanding of probability theory, statistics and investment theory, to provide strategic, commercial and comprehensive financial advice to the ministry in relation to commerce with other countries and territories.
 
You will be expected to use financial and statistical theories to assess the likelihood of a particular event occurring and its possible financial costs to Mount Vema, and you will need to apply your mathematical, economic and statistical awareness to real-life situations in the trade and financial world and be able to communicate difficult topics to non-specialists. Therefore, it is important that you are an excellent communicator, possessing the ability to discuss complex topics in a simple way.
 
Responsibilities
Your tasks may vary, but your work includes:
  • using mathematical modelling techniques and statistical concepts to determine probability and assess risks in doing business with a particular country and territory
  • developing new trade and financial products
  • preparing presentations, reports, valuations and quarterly updates on commercial activities with other countries and territories
  • monitoring risk within trading positions in direct foreign investments to ensure excessive risks are not taken during the fast pace of trading
  • presenting reports, explaining their implications to the secretary of state and advising on risk limitation
  • advising on issues such as the selection of investment options overseas and the administration of pensions and benefits associated with overseas investments
  • working with IT professionals to develop systems to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Kingdom of Mount Vema regulatory bodies
  • carrying out relationship management, liaising with trade partners of the Vema Seamount Territory (countries and territories), including people and organizations with interest in Mount Vema such as investment managers, financial directors and external stakeholders
  • supervising staff
  • Oversee any approved mergers and acquisitions.
 
Salary and Benefits
The salary is $80,000 US dollras per year.  Paid monthly in arrears.
Note: Salary will increase at a steady rate over time to up to $200,000.
The benefits include paid medical coverage, paid vacation, sick days, holidays, and a pension plan. Benefits are only applicable after you complete three months on the job.
 
Working hours
You will work normal business hours (Mount Vema Time Zone = UTC+1) Monday to Friday however, you may be expected to work additional hours to meet deadlines without overtime compensation.
 
Work Conditions
You will be provided with a private Office at a later stage however, initially you will be expected to work from home. Travel is almost always involved in this role, and therefore the work environment may vary quite dramatically day to day.
 
 Requirements
If your application is accepted, you will be required to open a bank account with a Mount Vema bank, if you do not already have a Mount Vema bank account.
 
What to expect
  • You will be expected to maintain a smart business dress code.​
  • You may be required to travel from time to time, to meet representatives of trade and commerce from other countries and territories including corporate officials.
 
Qualifications
This vacancy is open to all, with strong numerical skills. The following degree subjects may increase your chances:
  • actuarial science or actuarial mathematics
  • business or finance

  • engineering
  • mathematics or statistics
  • risk management
  • science, e.g. physics and chemistry.

You will need to have:

Training
Training is not provided. Except for the use of the software in use by the department. You will be expected to develop your own ways of work, proving that you follow the protocol and the expected codes of conduct.
