MVAB, Mount Vema Architects Board proposes plans to reduce license fees

6/15/2021

June 15, 2021 – Mount Vema Architects Board (MVAB), the institution responsible for protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public through the regulation of the practice of architecture for or within the Vema Seamount Territorial waters is proposing plans to reduce license fees to attract more architects. The Board told VSBCnews on Monday.

The MVAB said that it would like to make it affordable for anyone to join the City of Mount Vema project as an architect given the size and complexity of the project. The Board also said that because the government has already allowed some architects to work without a license, it would be fair to at least reduce the license fees for new architects.

regulation of licensed professionals. The Board establishes regulations for examination and licensing of the profession of architecture and those in the process of meeting examination and licensure requirements.

On Monday, VSBCnews has contacted the Ministry of National Development and Land Maintenance but could not reach anyone for comments. However today the Ministry has told VSBCnews in a statement that, it looks forward to reading the proposal and will consult with other departments on the issue. The Ministry has also clarified that some architects are exempt because of the government’s ‘early bird policy’.

What is the government’s ‘early bird policy’?

The government’s ‘early bird policy’ is a policy used by every Mount Vema entity which is encouraged by the Government, meaning that priority, flexibility, and opportunities must be given first to those with the courage to join at a time when others were hesitating.

The Mount Vema Architects Board which was created in January 2008 by the Office Vema Seamount Authority will formally submit its recommendations by the end of the week according to a source familiar with the plans.
